What inspired and motivated its creation?
I get this question a lot.
Honestly, it all began with chronic pain, depression, and a deep dive into my subconscious mind.
One day, when the pain was unbearable, I found myself sitting at the dining table. Every movement was an effort. There was no paper or pen nearby, and I had no energy or desire to move. But my laptop was there. And for a brief moment, it felt like it was calling to me . . . waiting to be opened.
I opened it and began typing.
That’s how the prologue was born: during one of the most acute, most unbearable flare-ups of the chronic pain I’ve been cursed (or blessed) with.
But the real shift happened when I rewrote that scene in third person and gave my character a name: Tyra. The story surged forward without many interruptions from me. Once Tyra separated from me, her creator, she burst free in a determined rebellion, claiming her independence. She didn’t just lead the creative process; she pulled me into the rabbit hole of her own world, one as universal as our collective unconscious.
It was a majestic experience!
Feverish, magical, and therapeutic.
If I could sum up this book in a single sentence, I’d say:
Read. Feel. Heal.
